Metal Detctives and The LP Club joint dig
Sunday 24 June 2018
Approximately 130 acres of cultivated land to detect
Some information provided by Metal Detectives...
We have our next joint adventure with Leisure Promtions lined up for a rare treat in June of 130 acres of cultivated fields in Deddington Oxfordshire. The Metal Detectives Group members have visited some of these fields once before in November 2017 when we had mixed results, with a few hammered coins, Jettons, Bag seals, Georgian and Victorian finds and more...
The problem when we visited in November was the stubble was thick and dense with lots of green regrowth, this hampered our attempts to get the coils to the soil, but we still managed some decent finds with the general consensus was we all wanted to return when the ground conditions were more suitable. Now the landowner has let us know the ground will be in excellent condition for us to search on June the 24th with most of the fields having been cultivated by the time we visit.
The site holds great promise, with its close proximity to Deddington castle, recorded roman and saxon in the area, crop marks in one or 2 of the fields,Manor house, Ancient trackway along the edge of several of the fields and much more surrounding our search area.
